Staff at my group home openly disliking how much benefits we get

@shutterbug I believe that the right path is making everything available for free/
as cheap as possible, for example produce cars that don’t need to refuel(and the technology is there! It just hasn’t been
implemented yet unfortunately),
instead of the government paying certain people.
If you want the government to pay, let it pay ALL OF US,
like universal basic income.
I can very much see how making everything very cheap, perhaps in combination
with universal basic income, can make life better for all of us and eliminate poverty.

Where have I said that reasonable profit, as opposed to excessive/wanton profit, is bad? I am not against some measure of profit. However I don 't think it should trump the needs of the disabled/vulnerable.

Why should some have to work without compensation while others don’t?

Many of us contribute to the best of our ability and circumstances. Part of that is challenging the anti social view that profit should come before the welfare of the disabled/vulnerable.

We also need to challenge the view that governments can accrue debt forever to run up bills now that can’t be paid in the future. Your benefits come at the expense of the generations that follow. Recognition of this is important. The math is NOT sustainable. At all.

@shutterbug several things.
First, a lot of jobs can be automated, dozens of percents of jobs, so the need for human labor is gradually reduced.
I am fully in favor of automation because it allows to make things much cheaper/free.
As well as the incorporation of new technologies in construction, transportation etc that will make everything so much cheaper.
I hope this is where we are headed.
Now regarding the need for compensation where human work is needed-
This is a valid problem, I don’t say my plan doesn’t have loopholes,
this is a concrete problem but it can be solved.

Geez, @bobbilly was posting that he was feeling bad about the situation and I’m guessing this thread may have made him feel even worse.

Regardless of whether or not the system in the UK could use improvement, it is most certainly not the fault of the disabled and it is unprofessional of staff in a supportive care group home to take out their dissatisfaction on the residents.

I had this problem too!

It made me feel like I couldn’t ask her about applying for PIP after the change from DLA…

I ended up loosing it and am now £168pm worse off at the time I got my own place…

My new outreach worker is more socialistic and has no problems of my reapplying for PIP.

You just have to remember that you get enough to live off not simply survive temporarily!

It’s been my experience that here in the U.S. the amount of benefits you are receiving can quickly change. About a month ago I got a letter saying my food stamps have been cut from $143.00 per month to $68.00 a month. You might want to save up a nest egg for a rainy day.

Until it is solved, it is not reasonable to lecture those who work that they should be doing so only for the benefit of those who don’t.

That is unfortunately how reality works. It manages to kick me in the teeth several times per day.

@shutterbug I oppose monetary compensation for jobs.
I for example would be very happy to work for free, like to do your job for free.

If you can figure out how I can survive doing nothing but taking pictures all day, I’m all for it. Unfortunately, I’m not getting my home, groceries, utilities, or vehicles (all of which I need) for free. Further to this, over half of my income goes to others, many of whom ARE getting stuff for free. Do you see why I might be a bit touchy?

Folks, I’m going to open this topic again. Please keep the discussion on topic and civil, otherwise I will have to lock it again.

I felt belittled!

The staff that did it to us didn’t come from a mental health background, was just a retired nurse.
She eventually quit her job!

This comes up from time to time, like I said disability benefits are to live on not barely survive.

I guess if it was easier and they had supported work more of us would do that work!
She just used to call us lazy :frowning: and couldn’t understand that my meds were so sedative I find it hard to be up and ready for the day by 10am EVERY DAY!

I guess some people have fixed views and perhaps phyco education in schools is the way forward.

The other problem is the trend for benefit porn :frowning:

@shutterbug no, I can’t feel you.
I think that you should feel lucky that you are able to work,
and even more lucky that you are getting paid for it!!
I would be elated to take any job,
even for free or nominal pay and even the most dirty job.
I advise you to appreciate what you have and quit being sore.

@bobbilly you didn’t create the system. It may not be fair, but that’s not on you. And it wouldn’t help those workers if you declined the $.

Has anyone else seen the ■■■■ they put on TV ion the UK?

Benefits street etc, that’s half the problem atm the other is the DWP!

Did you ever feel with these workers that they couldn’t understand your condition?

Ours would say things like doesn’t everybody get that though… this would devaluate what we said to her!

Well ■■■■ not to that severity!
