im diagnosed bipolar type 2 but last 1 year i have stable negative symptoms -schizophrenia negative symptoms- is it possible or i have diffirent problem. anybody same?
Do people with bipolar disorder have negative symptoms? Idk. Do people with bipolar with psychotic features have negatives too?
i didnt have hallucination but i was have severe anxiety and ocd
Without hallucinations or delusions it’s not schizophrenia
ok i dont believe i have schizophrenia but why i have negative symptoms
Could be the meds or could be something else. What symptoms do you have? Consult a doctor.
I’d ask your doctor about that.
i didnt use any med but antidepressants
I also experiencing only negative symptoms. Apart from it I have OCD and anxiety which came long before. But due to this negative symptoms anxiety and OCD reduced and this flat affect causing cognitive issues mainly due to low working memory.
Separate from depression, people with bipolar disorder can experience negative symptoms.
Especially those with psychotic features like me.
How are you distinguishing negative symptoms (as seen in sz) from depressive symptoms such as anhedonia and increased fatigue?
Thanks for telling me wave. Anytime I read anything on bipolar it never says anything about them experiencing negative symptoms.
Yeah @anon12381882
There are negative symptoms experienced from depression and from the AP’s.
But a certain sub group of people with bipolar will experience negative symptoms separate from depression and medication side effects.
In depression negative symptoms emotions are present both happy, sad, anger etc while in schizo negative symptoms emotions are dulled equally so both happy, sad, anger are equally dulled. A better term for negative symptoms in schizo is affective flattening or blunted affect or in a more severe form called flat affect.
This is why depressive people get strong negative emotions which make them angry, suicidal etc while in schizo and other conditions this strong emotion either happy or sad is not there and thus they wont likely affected by those situations, thoughts, criticism etc.
In depression antidepressants actually numb those emotions so that those negative emotions won’t likely affect the individual as much but the side affect is it also numb all emotions equally, its like taking alcohol or sedative to feel nothing.
There is a youtube video by a guy demonstrating his ability to remain still. He acknowledge it as catatonic schizophrenia due to its resemblance but actually its a symptom of bipolar probably rapid cycling. Here is the title of that video.
Schizophrenia vs ADHD - Catatonic Stillness Demonstration
Search above term in youtube as unable to give link here.
The distinguishing difference between schizo and bipolar (apart from type 1) negative symptoms is the lack of positive ones like hallucination, delusions etc. So if negative symptoms are prominent without any positive its likely not schizo. Negative symptoms might be attributed to the cognitive impairment brought by the bipolar.
