Bipolar vs sza

I’m wondering is bipolar with psychotic features and schizoaffective commonly misdiagnosed also how would schizoaffective disorder look like in real life vs bipolar idk I’m wondering if it’s just bipolar and psychosis I have but I heard voices everyday all day for 7 years on meds until they found haldol worked so much better than abilify and a whole list of others

If you have sz symptoms i would think you have sza…most important is you get right treatment.

With SZA you’d remain psychotic outside the BP episodes.

If you become psychotic outside of mood episodes it’s more than likely SZA

This describes me.

Plus people with bipolar disorder usually function a lot better than someone with schizoaffective

Negative symptoms also come in to play with schizoaffective

@Vertigo I’m very thankful I don’t get negative symptoms. Mostly positive with can be pretty bad. I hardly get depressed. But the mania is hard to keep on top off as gets that bad. I’m stable now though.

All these illnesses are agreements between doctors, based on behavioral profiles, rather than very distinct disorders.

My guess is with sza the emphasis is on psychotic symptoms. With bipolar the emphasis is on mood fluctuations.

My friend is bipolar and she has had psychoses. But she normally can do with just a mood stabilizer and not be psychotic…it’s only when she is under severe pressure and having a lot of mood issues, that she gets delusional and needs a temporary antipsychotic.

I have a friend who is bipolar and has adhd. He only takes ritalin. He can manage the bipolar without meds. He stopped using weed as it makes him paranoid
