Sophophobia is the fear of learning
The origin of the words ‘sopho’ (meaning wisdom or knowledge) and ‘phobia’ (meaning fear) are Greek.
A common explanation for Sophophobia is the presence of another psychological disorder such as schizophrenia. For instance, a person with schizophrenia might fear knowledge because someone could read their thoughts, or that someone is after them because of what they know.
I’m not at all sure about this, but others mileage might differ . I’m not fearful of learning as much as I’m fearful of being in an academic setting like a college for adult education etc. This stems from severe social anxiety and memories of being bullied rather than thinking people will read my thoughts if I learn more.
