I’m Salman. I have a brother diagnosed with Schizophrenia and this site has helped us both, so I thank the SzAdmin and the community for that.
I am a computer scientist student, and I’m in my final year of study. As my year long project I truly wan’t to build something that aids my brother or someone who may be going through similar things… which is why I’m asking the community here to see what sort of software/features would help you out in your daily lives… even if by a bit.
I would appreciate it if you were to reply, as you have insight into the illness and acctually lived through the motions, I have merely seen them…
I think the idea is awesome, especially since my brother listens to music 24/7.
The only issue I see with this may be a technical one, since it depends on how youre listening to music could be many different platforms (through a website on a PC, using your smart-phones built in mp3 player), and the same thing goes for recieving audio messages (if its an audio message through Skype, if its through whatsapp, etc…)
Regardless, I won’t be able to come up with such an idea since it is very personal to your situation, and thank you for sharing, i’ll keep it in mind :).
A computer system that is worn on a lanyard or around the forehead. It has an eye complex and a microphone. It must speak with natural language. It basically monitors the humans activities and input, makes queries about symptoms and mood. The slowly generates a plan for optimizing nutrition and managing symptoms by use of a balanced diet.
Haha @BraynAshley, This sounds like something out of blade runner. Awesome creativity. Though I don’t think my expertise (or brain) can fathom how to achieve such an idea right now… perhaps one day.
I’ve been instructed as to mimic rhythm and integrate motion into enhancing my neuro-plasticity. I know I’m not at my best but if I can move around and not losed my balance I guess I’m well. Haven’t had a beer yet…most of the time it’s a case a day. I think that maybe a rhythm game for groups electronically would be sorta cool. Like an internet drum circle?? I’m babbling can’t think straight one bit.
Blade runner was an awesome movie. I never read the book but I get her they wholly separate works. If only I had the motivation to start reading I have a stack of Philip k dick books to get through.
Maybe if you just created a small tiny earpiece that continuously repeated its not real at odd intervals. Or a brainwave reading headpiece that would first be calibrated manually by the patient to identify the patterns when the brain hallucinates or has delusional thoughts. Then it could be set up to automatically say it’s not real when it acts up.
Thank you Dreamscape for the very interesting articles.
Regarding the article in nature.com, that is quite an interesting theory that was explained. The idea that perhaps in the future, interactive software could be more effective in treating mental disorders than pills.
The idea is that it created an artifical exposure to the fear the patient has. (Such as Fear of heights, Fear of dogs… etc). Such that the patient then overcome his fear.
Although in regards to psychosis, I am not sure how it will work. For example, will a full virtual reality psychosis episode be helpful? I am not sure.
That is definitely something I can do. Would that acctually help you out? (Do you have many scenarios where you don’t know if that person exists or not?)
Can’t you already achieve this by taking a photo with a smart phone or its not that simple?
