I applied by phone a week or two ago and they scheduled this first appointment
What happens there?
I applied using a lawyer that didn’t cost me anything. I never had an appointment just forms to fill out.
The SSA is going to ask you for documentation from your psychiatrist supporting your claim, so having that is very important. Also, make sure you fill out all of the forms correctly.
I hope you get the SSDI.
At my appt they just verified everything that I put in the paperwork online. I signed papers to have them collect docs from all my drs and whatnot even though I had brought copies myself. Really it was stupid I got all worked up about nothing
I just talked to them on the phone. Never met with anybody. I applied on line.
It is a long wait. I’ve been waiting for well over a year. I’m going to get denied on porpuse so i can continue my life
I think they routinely deny your first appeal. Then, after the denial, you get a lawyer, and, if you have a good case, you’ll probably get your disability pay. They’ll give you back pay started from the time of your first appeal. So, if your first appeal was in January, and you get your disability in August, you’ll get eight months back pay. I think your lawyer gets that. There are lawyers on YouTube who will give you advice on what you should and shouldn’t do when you apply for disability. You probably want to check them out.
What you say is what my lawyer told me too but I got approved in 3 months. Maybe it depends on the symptoms
Oddly enough, they gave me my ssi with no help for an attorney. I didn’t even know they had appealed a second time. I grateful they did.
Did they tell you to bring anything? They should have told you if you needed any documentation or hospital records or anything. When I was younger and dealing with Social Security, my parents would come with me. Part of it was moral support but also they would ask questions and get everything explained. They should have told you what this meeting is about and if you needed to bring anything. My lawyer told me not to lie, but he also told me that I can shade the truth in my favor.
Get a lawyer. Thats what i did. I know a bunch of ppl who got denied the first time without a lawyer but i was granted ssdi with back payment
So you did have an attorney? I’m applying for SSI too.
You can definitely bring anyone you want along for moral support. I think my dad came with me and just sat there listening.
For the medical review when you actually meet with a pdoc, I was told years ago by someone on sz.com to describe things on your worst day.
No, I didn’t have an attorney, but my case is the exception, not the rule. I think you need an attorney to get ssi.
