I’m a little insecure ( I can post this anonymously on the internet of course) but I feel like I will be meeting people with great careers and I am only working in a bakery ( I’m not even a pastry chef at that which would be something). Our society is so centred around the idea of ‘‘So, and what do you do?’’ I am fearful of their response to me. I’m not working in the field I studied. I’m not even really in a profession. I know I am building it up in my head. It feels like what you do is a shield against the world. It confers dignity and self esteem. Without it, you’re nothing. Will I make new friends? Will they judge me? Will they look down on me for not being super career oriented?

Hey! I’m on meetups, and so far has been really fun. Hope you end up joining. And just remember everyone’s got something.
Yes yes yes Diana you are!!! Relaxx!
Only a bunch of pervs contacted me when I joined, be careful!
It’s a fantastic site and the people on there aren’t necessarily career oriented either. If people wanted friends with the same career as them, they would make friends at work. They’re on meetup so they can meet people with different life experiences than their own.
you might be getting confused with meetme.com
meetup.com is a group orientated site while meetme.com is like a dating site/platonic friend meeting site
even I got perverted messages from creep dudes when I joined meetme.com
and I’m a straight man
Oh wow, I think I was confused! I will have to try meet up!
Yeah I’m on both sites lol. You do meet alot of perverted men and occasionally women on meet me.
Ha! I checked out meetup.com and then ended up writing this poem
Meetup is great if you want to exercise, learn programming, or find a support group like for those with aspergers.
I looked into it, they have some nice groups but I never went to any events
Same here. Never went to any. They have a quantum physics group I looked at. Now my head hurts lol.
Toastmasters looks cool too.
Yes, I hope you can try Meet Ups, @Miss. I went to a few and had a great time! The ones I chose were free or VERY inexpensive.
Just make a profile in the app, theres no commitment involved. I used it to play volleyball. I never sparked conversations, i felt stigmatizes for being a smoker tho, and the experience sucked so i stopped. But u might find it worthwhile, just check out the different groups, see if u find something ur interested in.
