I got the results from my sleep study, and it came out with a conclusive diagnosis for narcolepsy, no signs of cataplexy thankfully. It appears to be the root of my disorders and I think it might have been caused by the compression of the spine leading to the t4 fracture, because narcolepsy is believed to be caused by a deficit of hypocretin in the cerebrospinal fluid
At least your on the right path now, and I hope you find the optimal treatment for it.
The treatment is just a fistful of adderall every day, there’s not really any effective treatment so they just give you a stimulant to keep you alert during the awake parts
what were your symptoms that led to the test, if i may ask?
I’m curious because i’ve been napping all day many times for the past i dunno how many months. my sleeping is becoming problematic. I nap for anywhere from 30 minutes to 3 hours at each go and I try to not nap but i eventually lie down and then i’m out.
How were you diagnosed?
I understood one had a choice of drugs for narcolepsy. For example, Modafinil (Provigil) and Nuvigil.
Jayster
could your sz symptoms actually be dreamlike hallucinations from the narcolepsy?
I would hallucinate as I was falling asleep and I struggled with insomnia a lot
The defining characteristic of narcolepsy is falling asleep during the first sleep phase, in as little as 15 minutes into a nap. This happens to me all the time. They put me on adderall and I still end up having to take naps, and when I do I’m thrown I into a nightmare and then I wake up
There is no recovery from narcolepsy, it’s pretty awful, and I’ll probably be on amphetamines the rest of my life
Yeah, were pretty sure that’s what it was, because narcolepsy presents as ADHD and comes with racing thoughts and the same type of hallucinations you get when you haven’t slept in days
It appears over time as well, as you begin to build up a massive sleep deficit from unregulated rem cycles
Not if you’re on medicaid
Those are all stimulants too, it’s just an assortment of prodrugs to amphetamine
