Should I get a job?

Hey guys … I think I’m about fed up with all this fear and paranoia. I’m wondering if I should just throw myself out there and try to get a job. I’m terrified of people …I don’t trust anyone and I don’t even know how to interact with them anymore.

If I fail maybe it’s better than living in fear all the time. I really don’t know if I’m strong enough to do it but I can’t let my life stay like this. I finally stopped vaping now maybe I should try to fix other stuff in my life

You can try. Maybe get a simple job that will train you like stocking shelves or working in a warehouse. Something that will keep you busy so you don’t have to talk much.

I am so sorry you are going through this but I have to say that getting a job can be extremely stressful unless you are referring to a non-social job. It sounds like you need to take this in smaller steps. First, you need to feel relaxed around people. Can you try going out and sitting at a Starbucks or McDonald’s or a local mall and just people watch. Then begin interacting with people. After that, try to join a club or maybe volunteer somewhere. Those are all less stressful ways to interact with people than jumping into a job.

I recommend volunteering first. It’s less of a time commitment and gets you around people and practicing skills

You could always work part time. That’s what I do.

Yea I guess I could go out and just be around people but I feel like having something to do at work would help lessen the anxiety. When I go places I get really nervous and just fall apart. I really want to find something with little interaction with the public or a lot of other workers tho

Ye… that’s what I want. I really just need money but I’m becoming painfully afraid of people at this point.

As @LilyoftheValley has stated, do some volunteering first before jumping straight into a job. I delivered meals to the elderly on a full-time volunteering basis before getting hired to do warehouse work. Eventually I moved onto my specialty vocation which is computer servers, Internet Networking and Linux operating systems. Volunteering is a great way to have your first reference and volunteering shows that you have been actively participating in the community and not remaining unemployed for a long duration. Also to consider is if & how you want to disclose your mental health or not during volunteering and eventually your job.

I don’t think you are ready for work. You have too many symptoms.
