I’ve always loved shopping, since childhood really. I love deals because it means I can shop more, more bang for my buck. When I learned to internet shop I knew it would be a problem. It takes a lot of self control to keep it in check. Right now I’m on a bender because of Christmas. I’ve completely fallen off the wagon. Everyday I’m buying something. I keep running budgets to see how long it’s going to take me to pay it all off. It’s pretty scary stuff. Are you going into debt for Christmas?
Nope. I did my Christmas shopping throughout the year and was finished by November.
I can understand. But try not to get into debt.
I’m guilty of buying stuff I don’t need and maybe it should be my new years resolution to keep a tighter check on that.
no I didn’t go into debt. but I spent all my money I had saved for Christmas. plus an extra $200 dollars. I think I spent $800 dollars this Christmas for like 11 people. hope I have more money next Christmas. I plan on getting a part time job by then. at the moment im wishing I would have spent that money on home improvements. for example there is this blue area rug I have my eye on but only have $40 dollars in my bank account until I get paid Tuesday.
Every time I spend money, I panic that It’s to expensive and I’m going to spend myself into homelessness, that It’ll be the straw that finally snaps me and leads me into madness and poverty.
Throwing away clothes too.
My bad wired brain.
That being said, I know you’re trying to make this Christmas extra special for your kids. More Presents don’t necessarily equal a better Christmas. I’m sure you raised them right, they’re more excited to see their mom than to get gifts.
Please be careful with your spending. A child would feel horrible to see a parent financially suffer for their own pleasure. At least a good child would.
Wishing you well my foliage friend
I have a shopping problem, too. I obsess about one thing for a while, then move on to the next. For a while, it was makeup. Now it’s facial care products (wearing a peel-off mask as I type this), though I’m still stuck on makeup and get it through subscription services and to review on my blog. Anyhow, I haven’t gone into debt over Christmas… I went into debt over other things. Car insurance deductible after an accident, much needed winter wear. But not Christmas. I buy starting over the summer, then have everything finished early. The only thing I need are a few remaining stocking stuffers. I don’t want to buy sweets early because gross.
Next year, I have budgeted a certain amount to go towards Christmas savings each month. We are tighter now than usual because we took out a loan for some stuff we needed. I need to be prepared. Anyhow, this year I spent around $1200 on my kids and $600 on hubby. Some of hubby’s present will be paid over time, though, as it is a cell phone that goes with our plan.
it’s true shopping can be addictive. And you could lose the ability to judge the worthiness of the good you are about to buy. Over the past three year I bought quite a lot of jade products such as a jade flower, a jade cicada, a jade cabbage, two jade leaves. When I was buying them, I thought they were beautiful. But now, after they have laid in my drawer for a couple of months I found they are no longer attractive. I regret the money I’ve spent on them.
Basically I was thrift all my lifetime , those jade products are the only thing stupid I did in terms of shopping.
Well, I made it through Black Friday without going crazy. Total haul was two pairs of winter gloves (one for wife, one for kid), and a red winter fleece hood/mask as Squirrelettte freezes her face off at the bus stop right now. I grabbed a 500 GB SSD drive on sale so I can upgrade an older computer (kid’s desktop) and extend its life another couple of years plus an extension cord for the electric snow blower (Mrs. Squirrel absconded with the regular unit for Saturnalia lights.)
No new computer, no big screen TV, no expensive piece of electronics. I think that’s an improvement.
I’m sure I would be a shopaholic if I had the money for it.
But every purchase I make steals money away from my food budget, so it’s simple survival.
Every time I think of buying something, I have to ask myself: “Do I want to buy this, or do I want food and cigarettes for a week?”
When I do have leftover money, however, I seem to have no problem finding things to spend them on.
I buy nothing except cigarettes and coffee
I am not in debt but don’t have much money put aside.
I had $700 put aside for emergencies but have to pay excess for my hysterectomy so I might not have that money anymore.
I do love to buy things.
I try to buy well and I don’t regret what I buy often but I have bought Christmas gifts.
I spent about $50 each on my closest ones.
I just spent some of my food money on a magazine for my friend.
He smiles an. He smokes but he was always so good to me and when he had more money than me he would shout me pizzas.
I need to start saving some money instead of spending.
I need emergency money set aside if my animals need to see a vet or if my car needs fixing.
Or if I get a big bill.
I want to have Botox and fillersbut can’t afford it right now.
I don’t wear much makeup.isually just lipstick most days.
I love my food and spend a lot on food.
I love shopping too but I’m not worried about my spending at the moment.
