I am a shopaholic?

My family tells me I have a problem shopping. I don’t think so. It is the only thing that I enjoy. I have tried other hobbies but they do not occupy my mind. I have to buy something in order to feel alive. There is nothing I enjoy more. I used to be smart and artistic but now I do not enjoy the same things.

As long as it doesnt’t put too much of a dent in your pocketbook - Even then I tend to think that people who look to buying things for pleasure - myself included - are needing something other than their purchases.

I’m paying myself back - I don’t buy all that much but was spending money I don’t have.

Sorry I’m lazy today and copied a comment I made on someone else thread. So maybe a bit out of sync…

One trick is to eat just before you go grocery shopping… It drastically cuts down on my food impulse buys.

The other is making a shopping list and keeping to just the list. Does help to keep a budget and also helps to curb impulse buys.

Shopping can sometimes be used as entertainment value as it’s a pretty much a instant gratification. If it’s a addiction or a habit. Best to keep receipts and only shop at places that you can return items is the way to go.

Debit cards are also a must and get rid of the credit card. Debt cards only use savings but purchases can be made like online shopping that normally require a credit card.

.

This could lead to trouble.

I like shopping at the clothing shop but only looking around and getting a glimpse of the new fashions. Sometimes I tried it out but not intended to buy it. Looking around in the shop is fun. I don’t have much money to buy those clothes. Also possessing too many clothes is a waste of resource.

I’ve lived with a shopaholic and it can be a terrible and destructive habit.

If you find yourself spending money you don’t have, just to get that ‘high’ of having something new, and then crashing afterward or feeling remorse or guilt about it afterward, you’ve got a problem.

The tough thing is it’s a little an eating disorder… Everyone has to shop, just like everyone has to eat. There’s no 12 stepping yourself out of it. You have to learn moderation and why you are doing it to begin with.

It depends. I love to shop; I love clothes, shoes, shampoo…but I know my limits and can easily walk out of the Mall having bought nothing but a coffee. It’s an escape, it’s relaxing…problems arise when you feel a strong impulse to buy something just for the sake of it. For example - a shopaholic will often have shoes/clothes in their wardrobe with the tags still attached…they were bought simply for the sake of buying. They might have multiple of the same item…their home might be messy because there’s too much stuff being bought…and so forth.

IF i feel the need for something I don’t have, I look on Craiglist.
But I already have everything i need.
I try to be happy and thankful for what I have.
