The only reasons I think of are obesity, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, metabolic disorders like diabetes etc

Think of it this way. People with actual heart conditions, such as dilated cardiomyopathy, are more likely to die from heart attacks. People with sz, on the other hand, do not usually have heart conditions. The risk of having heart attacks in people with sz is much lower than the risk in people with heart conditions.

Maybe we have lost energy from dealing with mental illness which would otherwise have helped to deal or cope with a heart attack.

Yea well we are very stressed creatures. I’m not one bit surprised.

Having seen severely mentally ill people I can tell you that they cannot make them eat healthy food against their will. They also are less likely to exercise well or stay away from addictive substances.

I read a news article a while back that one of the most effective treatments after a heart attack is to get a pet dog if you don’t already have one. The unconditional love they exude improves survival rates more than any other single intervention.
