Haven’t posted in a while about my service dog Julia.
She’s doing so well, has really picked up on hallucination discernment. She’s also picking up on my anxiety and panic attacks. Cardiac alert is another one of her tasks as she can detect when I’m about to have a flare up with my POTS.
Service dogs aren’t for everybody, but I am so glad I have Julia in my life. If anyone wants to know more information about service dogs, let me know.
Different things for different scenarios. For instance if I’m having a panic attack she Will get in my lap and do deep pressure therapy. If I’m having a hallucination, I point towards what I’m seeing, if it’s not really there she boops my leg with her nose, if there really is something there I know how she acts in order for me to know it’s real. She does a crying response by getting her nose between my hands and my face and if I’m laying down she will come lay on my chest for more DPT to calm down a panic attack or if I had a flashback same deal.
Im still considering getting a service dog … I’ve applied but will take a few weeks to hear back and then even more checks and maybe 2 years before I get the dog if I get through ok.
I worked closely with a trainer for the first year, then I did the rest by myself. We do service dog meet ups that are like group training sessions with our friends
