Schizophrenia Service Dog Update

My service dog in training is doing amazing. I’ve taught her how to tell if I’m hallucinating or not. I’ll ask her “Julia what is it” and point to what I’m seeing or hearing. If I’m not hallucinating and it’s real she’ll paw my leg. If it’s not real and nothing is there she doesn’t respond. This has taken a long time to train her.

Julia also knows many other things, panic attack response, crying response, repetitive behavior interruption, deep pressure therapy. I’m also fortunate to have her alert me to my heart condition when my heart rate gets too high before I pass out.

My life has changed dramatically in the last 1.5 years of having Julia, I don’t think I’d be here without her.

Here’s some picture spam of Julia on duty working. Pictures are at the aquarium, at the gym and at the mall.

Lovely dog!!! You’re very lucky to have her. Hope the training goes well

My dog helps me greatly, but he’s not as well trained as that!

@Hanna_Foxx, that’s wonderful! What an amazing dog! You’re so lucky! Do you go to training classes or have you done all this yourself?

How did you train her?
