Hi everyone new member here. I was diagnosed with schizophrenia currently on vraylar but have some side effects like akathisia hot flashes and weight gain from it. I used to be on olanzapine and was able to keep a job and work more hours on it but gained too much weight so doctor was concerned about diabetes so we switched. I really want to give Seroquel xr a try something like 400mg daily evening time I’m also on Ritalin 5mg twice daily NAC 1200mg daily multivitamin and b complex. I want some opinions on Seroquel xr who used it and how was your experience. I can’t stay on a diet but I would prefer weight gain over akathisia and hot flashes.
Meds are just personal trial and error. Some people here swear by seroquel.
My experience with seroquel was very bad. It actually made me much worse.

Seroquel is a good med. Never tried XR but I’ve been on the regular stuff for a couple of years. No weight gain either.

Seroquel made me gain weight insanely fast. I did get good sleep on it though, but it didn’t alleviate my paranoia. Meds are different for everyone though so you might like it.
A few tips on things that confuse newbies:
Cake day is the anniversary date of when you joined.
The 1515 or other numbers at the end of peoples posts are because there’s a 15 character minimum to post. So people put 15s after until they get to the minimum characters to post.
To tag someone, put the @ followed by the name.

Isnt seroquel xr the quick release one? I dont think you can take that high a dose of xr. But the slow release one you can. Not certain though. Anyway my experience of it is pretty much just feeling groggy and cloudy minded. But great sleeps for sure. And if i take too much of it then i get akathisia with the restless leg syndrome thing.

It actually extended release. I took it for about 4 years and i did well on it. I did gain weight, and was tired, so taking it in the evening is a good idea. I actually want to go back on it instead of risperidone, but im having some problems with my p.doc

Im on seroquel xr for the second time. Ao far the only side effects are a little weight gain and i get restless legs when i take it, but i read this can go away so im waitinf to see.

I had a very bad experience with seroquel. I warn people about it… everyone is different though… it might work better for some

Everyone’s experience with these meds are different but Seroquel XR made me hallucinate

It made me a very hungry zombie who had strong falling-asleep hallucinations. I do much better on Zyprexa.

What makes you think Seroquel XR is going to be the solution to your problems? You premise taking it without explaining why you want to it that. I only mention this as individual response is the most important yet seroquel would not be my first choice.
Prn/adjunctive sleep aid maybe there is good use for that. Moreover you’re going to gain weight on Seroquel
Hey yo. I’m on this med. I personally love it. I just take it at night, sleep, and don’t take it again until the next night. Once you really get it in your system (if it agrees with you), I find that it really helps dampen things just enough. My only complaint is that waking up initially can be difficult. Not to mention, if you need to drive anywhere after you’ve taken your meds? Forget it. It hits you like a tranq dart in one of those spy movies. However, it’s much better than what I would be experiencing off it lol
One thing I will warn you about: Seroquel can make you have some vivid dreams. Like we’re talking trippy, vivid, uniquely awful. If that happens, talk to your doctor about Topamax. It’s another med I’m on that specifically can help dampen Seroquel dreams. Just a heads up, if you experience that, there is a release!

That’s my experience with it. It’s like getting hit by a truck. But sometimes that’s what you want.
Seroquel ir is To say it quite frankly the best 2. gen. I’ve ever used. Yes it saved my life from dreadful Compulsions and racing thoughts. Seroquel make me sleep 7 hours strait each.night. I use it with another excellent antipsychotic namely Clopixol depo.
my dose of Clopixol depo is 500 mgs every 3 weeks.
my dose of Seroquel ir is 900 mgs by mouth.
