I think I have adhd from my AP blocking too much dopamine

I think APs are actually used to treat ADHD sometimes. I don’t think they would cause it.

I suppose they could potentially decrease your attention, but I would think they would not cause ADHD.

Haven’t seen meds give anyone ADHD. I’ve seen them turn plenty of people into furniture.

Do you have a link?

It will probably take 50 years for this to trickle down into practise

Took about 3 seconds…

I found a study that says Abilify improves cognition but then they say studies that say aps help adhd are highly criticized and not accurate.

From your article:

Use of antipsychotic prescribing appears to be associated with high levels of psychiatric comorbidity.

Anyways APs are known to worsen negative and cognitive symptoms. @Bowens

Did you find any articles that claim that AP’s cause ADHD?

No I am talking from personal experience, APs did reduce my attention and cognition, my grades at university all went down after I was put on AP. On Abilify I was still able to finish university but now on risperidone I can’t and I even have cognitive problems in daily life like memory, attention, poverty of speech, etc I can’t even read long texts or play video games on my own since switching from Abilify to Risperidone. Also APs are not FDA approved for ADHD.

Risperidone is used to reduce aggression in ADHD patients.

" However, atypical antipsychotics have been shown to treat ADHD symptoms . Specifically, risperidone was shown to improve attention and hyperactivity,26 and aripiprazole has been shown to improve cognitive functioning."

The Dopamine Dilemma - PMC.

You are claiming something that is sometimes used to treat a disorder is having the exact opposite effect in creating it. You believe whatever you want.

I don’t doubt that you may have concentration issues and maybe it has to do with AP’s but Risperidone is not likely to be causing you to have ADHD.

They’re not FDA approved for ADHD.

It still doesn’t null the point that there is no evidence whatsoever, that ap’s can cause ADHD. And if anything, the opposite is true. They may help with this disorder.

Anyway, I’m not going to argue the point any further.

Anyways I didn’t say I have ADHD but I surely have negative and cognitive symptoms from both, the meds and the sz.
