Still not recovered from it nearly 50 years later. The bullying. #ActuallyAutistic #Schizophrenia #Schizoaffective I didn’t mention it to a MH pro till quite recently. I thought ‘It’s minor compared to physical/sexual abuse. I’m weak for not getting over it’
As someone who has experienced both it is not minor at all. Both can make you wish you were dead, just for different reasons and both are emotionally crippling as well.
My brother who has autism was outperforming nerotypicals left and right in school now it’s not that he didn’t have his social issues but it consisted of him putting people down who couldn’t perform academically better than him, now some may consider that bullying and that got him a lot of teacher meeting with our parent and quite few enemy in school.
Not the wisest of things to do, but was it a response to hostile behaviour by others? I seriously underperformed in school, due to a ‘in the dumpster’ level of executive functioning, so was never in a position to do what your brother did.
As far as I was aware no, he would do that behavior to me too when we were kids and we both in private school which typically has less bullying due few number of students, my brother always like to feel superior to others still to this day but he more subtle about it so maybe that has nothing to with his
Asperger.
Edit: My brother’s response to bullying has always been giving the silent treatment and not acknowledging their existence which apparently worked well for most bullies though probably not the physical one, but neither him or me encounter those types.
