Schizophrenia?

So I was recently diagnosed with schizophrenia after being admitted into a mental health hospital…however, I really don’t think I have schizophrenia…I think it’s just paranoia, for example, say I’m about to leave my house to go somewhere…I’ll check the on indicator on the stove to make sure it’s off, then I’ll check it again and again and again until I absolutely have to leave the house because if I don’t check that it’s off, it’s gonna start a fire, checking the stove constantly gets tiresome but I can’t stop myself. Another thing is whenever I’m in a public place or even in my home I’m automatically looking around for cameras in fear that someone has set up cameras wherever i go to watch me and for lack of a better word “spy” on me. These are just a few examples, but does anyone else agree that this is not schizophrenia?

Could be OCD and maybe schizophrenia or psychosis.
Talk to a qualified psychiatrist.

I did when I was in the hospital, and schizophrenia is what I was diagnosed with

I wouldn’t count on the hospital doctors diagnosis to you.
I would get an evaluation from a private psychiatrist.

Like a second opinion.

Are you on meds? @Serenah?

Paranoia and delusions anyway. Do you hear voices or see things? and your behavior is affected… Keep talking to your doctor, are you on meds now?? I’m sorry you fear something bad is going to happen. I always fear the worst is going to happen. It is a natural thing that happens to AA members some times. But when It affects how you deal with it… Maybe you can talk it out with someone. You could learn to trust a little bit that no one is watching and trust yourself when you know the stove is off. Shorten the time you worry about it and that will be ‘normal’. Can you force yourself to trust?

No one on here can say if it is or isn’t but don’t stop meds just because you think you’re not. If the meds stop the need to check the stove a thousand times then it it helping. Sounds more like OCD to me

I’ve been prescribed a lot of meds for a lot of different issues ( ADHD, ODD, MDD ) I deal with other than this but most recently I was prescribed seroquel by the doctor at the hospital after evaluation, I’m only 16 so the medicine I take is pretty much controlled by my parents and my doctor

No, I don’t have hallucinations, it’s more intrusive thoughts than anything else. I was prescribed seroquel at the hospital.

Yeah it sounds like OCD, but please see a psychiatrist.

Ocd and other things like depression can be common with schizophrenia. Stay on the pills and follow up with a psychiatrist.

This happened to me in the early stages, I did the same exact thing with stove, door, walked across the floor a certain way, stared out the window without blinking until my mom drove off so I can prevent her getting in an accident. When you go for your next appointment, ask lots of questions. Also the camera thing sounds like paranoia, one time I was outside my pdoc office back in 2014 and just walking by, stopped didn’t go in there and sat a couple blocks away to call the secretary because I thought cameras were watching my every move and being in a building would make it worse even though I wanted to go for an emergency appointment, I told them I wanted to jump off a bridge near there, and then the secretary got frustrated because she said just to come in, I was totally deluded, got near the bridge and an imaginary hand grabbed my foot to stop me, thank god. So it’s good you got help with the meds about the cameras before it got worse, its paranoia

@Wave don’t give advice like that and doubt a 12 year learning psychiatrist. When you know your stuff from the internet.

You can’t see the op face, mimics or speech irl, there’s so Manny factors in a sz dx.

She does sound sz. Don’t give “water to a broken mill”

No what I meant was that it might be a good idea to get a second opinion.
