Is it normal in schizophrenia to receive advice for thoughts from people as auditory-like hallucination like it was coming from some spiritual dimension?
Last time I mentioned this to my Pdoc he seemed puzzled. I have next appointment tomorrow and I really don’t want to end up using clozaril if it doesn’t remove it.
Schizophrenia cases are so varied that it’s hard to call any individual hallucination ‘normal’ I think, people that believe in spiritual things will often have spiritual hallucinations I think, it all depends on experiences and what you’ve been taught.
I don’t have a degree or anything in all this, but I think it depends on what the voice says to you. Some people have voices that are supportive or encouraging, and in those cases it doesn’t matter if it’s ‘real’ or a symptom. If you have something telling you things that will cause you to make positive changes in your life and make things better for you, then don’t attempt to get rid of it. That’s what therapists in general have told me at least.
If it’s telling you mean things or giving you orders to harm yourself or others, then it’s an issue that the doctor should look into and medication is a good idea. Hope all that made sense.
I think you need to be psychotic for 3 months before they diagnose you with schizophrenia. It took them pretty long to diagnose me though.
I’ve had this for year, but the kind of feedback I get from people makes me think it’s something else. I just don’t like receiving it even if it’s positive since it gives me headache to differentiate reality from fiction.
Why I think it’s people’s spirits is because I stop hearing them when they go to sleep.
I don’t know what it is but antipsychotic meds may help.
