I was first diagnosed SzA. Then when I was in the psych ward at the hospital in 2008, they changed me to Paranoid Sz. I think the original SzA diagnosis is correct as I have mood swings.

They think I’m schitzoaffective but I’ve had a lot of labels thrown at me… I’ve been treated and diagnosed in 3 states. It almost seems like different states have different diagnoses for things idunno

Does anyone know if that’s true or what that would make me? Because I would like to know what it actually is

I’ve had 4 different diagnosis. My current pdoc suggested I might have schizoaffective disorder but he didn’t elaborate on which type. The majority opinion from all the pdocs I’ve been with over the last 17 years has been paranoid schizophrenia so I just go with that. I don’t really care about labels anymore, I’m just glad the meds work.

My diagnosis keeps changing between Schizoaffective and Bipolar over the years so I’m not much help to you.
Psychiatry is a guessing game.

No, I don’t believe that states have different diagnostic criteria for mental disorders. They are suppose to go by the DSM-5.

I’ve come to the same conclusion. Not only with getting the diagnosis correct but with finding the right meds too.

I’m not sure what you mean by “figure out the type”.

To diagnose yourself with a specific MI you mean?

I just mean like … am I schitzoaffective or paranoid schitzo or you know anything like that I’ve been wondering for a while sense the docs obviously don’t know
