does anyone know if there is a med that works good for this illness? i’m on two different anti psychotics: Haldol and latuda, i’m also on clonidine, benzotropine, Ativan, and lithium. I’m on other meds but they are prescribed by a different doctor.
I just hate the Haldol, it works good I mean i’m hallucinating less and i’m not so easily persuaded by delusions. But I hate the twitching and drowsiness.
Invega can be specifically prescribed for Schizoaffective, either type. I take it, along with Abilify, and my psychosis and depression are ok at the moment.
I tried invega it didn’t help with a thing and I was on the highest possible dose for the shot and on 18 mgs a day oral meds. thanks for the suggestion though, i’m scared she will put me back on that since the Haldol isn’t working like it’s suppose to.
Zyprexa is a reformulation (essentially) of clozapine, without the need for blood draws. It’s effective, but it can cause big weight gain, like clozapine. Worth asking about.
yeah I see what you mean, I gained 15 pounds on Haldol but quickly lost it a month later. right now my weight has stayed the same since march of last year.
I really hate to mention it to you, because it is notorious for weight gain, and I don’t wish that on anyone. But, it is really effective. What about risperidone or perphenazine?
risperidone I’ve been on three times and only worked the first and second time, now i’m afraid i’ll need a really high dose to get it to work. I’ve never heard of the second one, i’ll look it up.
It’s a first gen like Haldol. It’s brand name is Trilafon. It was found in some studies to be very effective. It’s not as potent as Haldol, so it won’t give you tremors or akathisia as much.
I was going to suggest Seroquel to my doctor, my dad was on it for awhile before he stopped taking meds again. I heard the side effects are bad with it though. my mom is on it too for depression. she likes it and hasn’t noticed any side effects.
