I checked it out a bit. I’ll try it on my laptop. The phone app gets pretty crappy ratings. So I’m not sure.
I used to be really worried about this. And still “sandbox” my browser in a wine instance for this site and all other sites that I am worried about what the government will think of it. It doesn’t help with IP address monitoring but does help with things that work off of cookies and totally disguises what kind of computer I am coming from I use https also where ever I can so that the ISP can’t monitoring what I am doing on a site, just that I am going there and how much traffic is going there.
But really, I am not as worried anymore. I am posting here I used to not do so because of this worry. I think it is just my paranoid thinking that gets me to think this way. Plus, I used to work in software security…
How do you do it?
I just start it inside wine (http://www.winehq.org). Anyone serious can get to my real system files. But I don’t think I’m any match for real hackers so, I just do this little measure. The browser is a separate instance and thinks its on Windows, so does not share cookies with my real browser or any of the browsers my kids use also does not tell the potential tracking websites my real OS. The main important thing is the cookies. No one (the kids or my husband) will get lots of ads for sz meds or something.
Don’t forget that:
Wine does not sandbox in any way at all. When run under Wine, a Windows app can do anything your user can. Wine does not (and cannot) stop a Windows app directly making native syscalls, messing with your files, altering your startup scripts, or doing other nasty things.
You need to use AppArmor, SELinux or some type of virtual machine if you want to properly sandbox Windows apps.

Yeah, I get this, perhaps I should try one of the other options, but am too lazy. Besides, I can’t mask my IP in the end even using tor will tell them that I use tor a lot…
Yes they can know that you use Tor but they will not know if you are using it to buy weapons, drugs or simply for posting some terrorist propaganda.
Yep that’s what I’m doing Haha!!
Yeah, that is why I don’t use tor, it is likely to draw attention to yourself…
I agree. Tor will draw attention to yourself.
