A similar thing happened in Michigan. The voters voted no on a bill that would put taxes on gasoline to pay for fixing roads. Then the lawmakers passed another bill afterward that raised the taxes anyway. Then for two years to roads were not fixed, then when the roads were “fixed” all they road commission did was do shitty patch jobs.
