Saving and living!

So having a bit of a renaissance in my personal life and getting way healthier and fitter. Still. Living on a very fixed income I am totally over running out of money for the fortnight so I’ve been cutting back on things I don’t really need.

Just nixed Netflix…I like watched Stranger Things first season and just don’t watch tv. Been paying for the subscription which is like $15 Aussie a month with different shows to overseas and not even using it. I also dropped the premium on my fitbit as I can get by with just the basic health information.

All in all that is like $30 a month I’ve been shelling out without even needing too. When you add that up that is like $360 a year saved straight away. I’m learning that I like to spend on decent things like a new computer monitor and that is totally achievable just spending on what I need!

I’m trying to be more careful about how I spend my money too. Sometimes I’ll go into a store and see something I want in that moment and I’ll buy it. Then when I get into the car, I’ll wonder why I desperately thought I needed what I just bought. It’s annoying and now I’m just trying to avoid going into stores that have a lot of random stuff like Marshall’s or TJ Maxx type stores.

Yeah a fixed income when it’s low is hard work. I need to be more proactive with my spending. I’ve gotten on well cutting out things like alcohol but still eat out a bit and waste a bit of money here and there. Thing is I like to enjoy things like eating out just can’t do it all the time so responsible spending on things that I get value out of is the way to go.

thats a good strategy to save some money.

I have a relatively simple spreadsheet for personal money

Every direct debit is in there, plus spending money for certain things

Since doing this, I have become a lot more aware of what money is left after costs

It has allowed me to know exactly what money I can use, and what I can potentially save

My bank has added a similar feature on the App on my phone, but I prefer excel

Yeah I might go back and use an old accounting app just to track things. I used microsoft money for years and it was good for keeping track of my spending. I might see if it’s still going > I think it’s open source these days but it’s been years…

Thanks for the suggestion matey.
