Romance scam: I was duped out of £17k by deepfake videos

I have a friend who was almost scammed numerous times. All kinds of different stories they gave when they were trying to scam her. Each time I told her I didn’t think it was right.

My co-worker friend lost 25k to a romance scam.

He showed up at the Airport with a rose to meet the girl of his dreams. Apparently there were 7 other guys with roses waiting for the same gal at the terminal.

Saved another buddy from a romance scam. The gal wanted money. She said she lived in Canada, but wanted the money sent to a Nigerian address. Can you say, “Red Flag”? I told him to ditch her right away which he did.

Years ago I was chatting with a man who said he loves me.
Then he said he is stuck at a air port with a ten million dollar pink diamond and customs need $250 000 to release the diamond to him in the country so he wanted $250 000 from me.

I don’t have that type of money.
I’ve never had that type of money and I realised it sounded like a scam so i stopped chatting with him.

A couple years ago or so I chatted with a man I thought was my on line boyfriend.
He was a dr he said and worked seven days a week.
Based in America but opening a surgery in Australia and had lived in another country too.

I sent him lingerie pics.
He calls me on phone one day and has an Indian accent.
He never mentioned being Indian.(I would have dated a Indian man if he right )
So thought accent was strange.

Then he tells me he is calling from overseas and doesn’t have a Aussie number.

Yeahhh you don’t work seven days a week in Aussie and about to open Aussie surgery yet don’t have Australian phone number.

He tried to convince me he is authentic but I didn’t believe him.

He never got money out of me but he did get photos.

My x and I chatted and he lived interstate and couldn’t afford to travel to see me for a date so I it $200 in his account which was a fortune for me .

He could of been a scammer and never shown or made up a excuse why he couldn’t come but thankfully he bought petrol with the money and rode his motorbike for three days or so to come see me.
We spent four days together and decided I would move in with him inter state.

I’m sooooo glad I spent that two hundred because it’s the only place I remember feeling at home.
One of the best things I ever did was spend that $200 I reckon.

Was pretty perfect home there .
God I love it and miss it.

Only reason I left peaceful happy amazing home was to become vegan for my morals and he wouldn’t accept a vegan in his house.

I have an awesome boyfriend now.
He is on disability pension too but we take care of each other.:slightly_smiling_face:

I’ve always told my young daughters. “You might have to kiss a few frogs before you find your Prince.”

I’m happy for you now that you’ve finally found your Prince!
