This is awful, preying on lonely people. Some people should be ashamed of themselves.
Iâm kind of embarrassed to admit this, but I was cheated out of $50 (CDN) in the form of an iTunes gift card to a woman I met on Facebook and had a ârelationshipâ with. This wasnât too long after my last hiatus from the forum 2 years ago. Anyway, on her page she claimed to be currently living in London, England. After she said she tried the code on the back of the card, she said it didnât work. I then looked on the back, and then saw that iTunes gift cards are only good for use in the country theyâre bought in. So, not long after, her birthday was coming up and she rejected my other suggestions. And, of course she asked for another iTunes gift card. She ended the ârelationshipâ after I refused. The next day, I still had the gift card and decided to try the code for myself and a message came up that it had already been used. I know now it was kind of pointless to contact Scotland Yard in London because they never got back to me. Well, if youâre reading this now, of course, she was living somewhere in Canada Iâm pretty well done with Facebook, anyway. Sure learned my lesson!
Wow. Youâre lucky in a way. These people are professional scammers they could have taken you for more than $50. But your instincts must have kicked in.
Well, not until somewhat later, but I did note when we were chatting with each other, from what she was typing she didnât seem British or even that she had immigrated to there.
I had a friend who was scammed.
He had a girlfriend in America and he was in Sweden.
She was a model and wrote to him lovingly online but he was sending her money and it was fake.
I donât know how much money he sent her before he found out she was a scam and the pictures might not even have been real.
I had a man try to scam me on a dating site.
He said he was stuck in a airport with a rare diamond and he needed me to send him money for a air ticket so he could travel with his investment.
He was saying he loves me and wants to marry me.
It was a lot of money he was asking for and I said no and please donât write to me again.
I met my x boyfriend on the same dating site and he didnât have money to meet me so I put a few hundred dollars in to his account for petrol so that he could ride to me.
He could have kept the money and not come but he came.
He rode from South Australia to Queensland on his motorbike all by himself to meet me.
We were together happily for two years.
I might join a dating site next year looking for a boyfriend or girlfriend but will have to beware of scammers.
