I don’t go with new drugs or newer class drugs, because the pdocs get “free samples” and the drug companies get more chances to test their meds! I was doing well on such an old school anti-psych med called Melaril but that they quit making it, so I was forced to go on Risperidone. I take 0.25 in AM and 0.5 in PM. I’ve been very pleased with it, although I do experience some drops in blood pressure and tachycardia. In fact, I used to sleep walk, constantly, and since going on the Risperidone, I’ve only slept walked once! As far as my auditory and visual hallucinations go, I find that they too are much better managed on Risperidone, because they mainly happened at night and Risperidone gives me a full night’s rest.
