Rhinos are a ungulates that have 5 different subspecies
In the early 20th century there were about 500 thousand rhinos but By 1970 there were 70 thousand rhinos in the wild now there are around 27 thousand rhinos in the wild unfortunately most of them only survive where there are national parks due to poaching people poach rhinos to get the tusks as the tusks sell on the black market for a lot of money
There natural habitat is tropic and subtropical grasslands and savannahs among other places
3 subspecies are endangered and a lot of people in Africa are worried there gonna go extinct
In 2011 they helped with conservation efforts to restore population the one horned rhino was helped out to help not go extinct
One of the subspecies the Javan rhino is now extinct in the mainland but in other places they are rebounding there is about 4 thousand rhinos
In Africa the white rhino was thought to be extinct but now there trying to revive the heard In sanctuaries and there are guards 24/7 to ensure the poachers don’t go in and kill the animals for there tusks
Poachers are people who hunt illegally while a true hunter hunts within the laws and due to the money the hunters give to go hunting other animals gives revenue to the conservation efforts to restore the heard and help fund schools and help give food to the kids and parents and people in general
Black rhinos have doubled in population due to conservation efforts there now at 2.5 thousand which is a fraction of what it used to be they estimate it used to be 100 thousand in the early twentieth century
If rhinos are feel threatened they will charge at the person or animal with there tusks
The black rhino and the white rhino when they become adults the only predators they have are humans however young rhinos are eaten by lions leopards and wild dogs
There is a major Asian demand for there tusks for ornamental and medicinal purposes
Everybody in Africa aswell as the rest of the world want the rhinos to once again thrive
