Restless legs from antipsychotic, should I go hospital?

I am not sure if I can handle this. Everyday is like a nightmare, I just sleep it off. Recently I got my antipsychotic injection due to some symptoms. Now I have restless legs and eye rolling which comes and goes.

I tried Benadryl and procyclidine did not work. Should I go to the hospital or the GP? Not sure what to do.

I would go to the dr about it.

I think I will phone the crisis team. This is a very uncomfortable feeling. I can’t even sit still.

Akathisia! Which ap are you on?

Yea it seems like it, I am on Flupentixol injection.

Edit: Now that I think about it, I REALLY should have chosen Olanzapine. Big mistake going on this med.

I phoned the crisis team and they told me they will email my nurse. As always, UK mental health being useless. Even though I mentioned severe akathisia and suicidal thoughts.

That sucks. Hopefully this gets straightened out soon

That’s akathisia, I dealt with it for a few years as a side effect. I’m prescribed propranalol to help reduce it and it does help, but I also had to work with my team to reduce my antipsychotic dose to a low enough level that it didn’t affect me in this way. It’s a super distressing side effect.

Yea I tried that in the past but it didn’t work. Maybe I will try it again and see if it works. It’s truly a horrifying side effect. I thought this was not akathisia but seems like it.

I’m really sorry dude, I feel for you, this side effect tortured me for a solid year before we got it managed. I think the only other good thing to try would be trying different antipsychotics until you find one that doesn’t cause too much akathisia. For me, going to 7.5mg of zyprexa or less treated my symptoms without akathisia. At 10 and 20mg I had akathisia.

Zyprexa was my like sixth AP I tried, some of the earlier were really bad, Invega made me pace around constantly

Try magnesium / calcium @Brim

Yeah sounds like akathisia if it’s hard to sit still. I hope you figure it out, I had it on risperidone horribly when they upped my dosage. I had it on olanzapine (the med I’m on now) but it went completely away after some weeks. I don’t know if it would have gone away on risperidone also cause I wasn’t on that med for long enough to test.

I phoned my nurse today and she told me they would get me off it. Finally, am never going back on injections again. I know they can be helpful which is why I chose it to begin with. But it just didn’t work out unfortunately.

Best of luck @Brim

I heard horror story’s about restless legs from meds, it doesn’t sound good. Antipsychotics work different on different people
