I worked in a small business owned by a married couple when I was 23 in 1984-88 They bought a small building and built a hot tub business from the ground up. I think the hey day of the hot tub was in the eighties.
Anyways, the owner and a handyman friend of his made 9 private rooms in which there was a hot tub in each room, a shower, a bed, plants, soap, music piped in and a telephone. They built a front counter staffed with two cashiers and they rented out the rooms by the hour to couples or single people. They built this place into being very upscale, well crafted and clean business and this was an affluent city and lots of people knew about this place.
If you think it sounds like a great, convenient place to have sex you would be correct. But it was completely legit. Not everybody who rented rooms was having sex but probably half of them were at least. The upstairs had three rooms where massages were given by a staff of 12 masseuses and one masseur. I know what it sounds like but I swear it was a respectable, clean, legitimate business. We also featured dry sauna’s and wet saunas. They charged the public from $5.00-$7.50 for an hour to use these rooms but since I worked there, when business got slow I could just go to any room for free and relax for an hour. I have some interesting stories about the 4 years I worked there, in fact my brain is being flooded right now with memories of working there in the 1980’s.
I didn’t mention that I got psychotic a lot there and my prolixen was drugging me so heavily that I told my dad that I would just keep working until I dropped in my tracks from fatigue. My last year there I was addicted to crack, in fact crack was part of the reason I eventually got fired.
Anyways, it was an interesting time to be where I was in the mid 1980’s. A lot was going on. My symptoms were raging, my drugs were taking me from crack houses that I spent the night in without knowing a soul to hanging out in the dorm rooms in one of the most prestigious colleges in the country and going to parties there.
And the music was fantastic in the 80’s.
