My first official job after I got out of an 8 month stay at a hospital was at a hot tub joint. It was 9 months after I got out of the hospital when I was 22 years old.
I don’t know if this place was unique to California but I have never seen another place like it ever. It was owned and run by a young couple, they were 30 or so. It was a basically inside a small building which was divided into 9 separate rooms. In each room was a wood or ceramic hot tub, a shower, a bed, and in half the rooms there was either a dry sauna or a wet sauna. We also supplied soap, shampoo, towels, and sheets. Each room had a telephone; most had plants, and we piped music into each room. Each room was completely closed and private and the doors could be locked.
Well, most of our clientel were couples. It was not a sleazy place at all, it was actually high class and upscale in a VERY affluent town where I was staying in a residential treatment home. We rented out the rooms by the hour at $ 7.50 per hour.
Some couples actually went there to just soak in a hot tub but as you can guess from my description of the place, there was a lot of sex going on. It was very private. My job for four years was to clean the rooms after each use and also to clean the whole building.
But there was a hall in back and each room was directly off of this hall. But I remember after I had worked there a year or two that as I walked by each closed door I would often hear the couples inside. I could hear the women moaning in excstacy. I didn’t eavesdrop on purpose but it was such a turn-on that I used to just stop whatever work I was doing and listen. It was fun.
But the funny thing was that this went on for months but then one day all the moaning stopped. It was weird. Like they all got together and spread the word that their moaning could be heard. It was very disappointing.
Epilogue: I ended up working there for FOUR years, through the thick and thin of my symptoms. I finally got fired due to my crack addiction. But that’s another whole long story.
