Just called in to have my tramadol counted at the doctor’s office and a pee test. N Y is cracking down on opioid addiction. Lucky for me I kicked my addiction before now. I had been taking too much, now taking exactly as prescribed. It sucked with withdrawals, but now i am not in pain and being responsible.
I am so proud of you. You are awesome!
I used to take an opioid. It isn’t the greatest choice for my heart. Yes, I have severe pain but my doctor didn’t want to underestimate the power of opioids. He changed me to another medicine and now I’m feeling much better in terms of heart pain.
I have a lot of joint, ligament, and muscle pain from osteoarthritis, psoriatic arthritis, and fibromyalgia. I am on tramadol 50 mg and naproxen 500.
Oh wow… I’m so sorry that you suffer from pain also. It’s so unpleasant. How is tramadol helping you so far? I’m on gabapentin (not sure the dosage) and some muscle relaxant.
How do you manage your fibromyalgia flares? I just find it so hard when pain hits me.
Sending love!
Ijust rest a lot when a flare hits. I used to exercise through them but had to leave the gym w hen we moved.
Tramadol works best paired with something like naproxen. On its own it doesn’t do much.
I also have a muscle relaxant, flexiril.
I see. I was on other opioids through the hospital before meeting this geneticist. Flares suck. For me, it’s just progressive but flare just hit me in the face when I come home. I get really hot during the flare and it’s just awful.
How are you doing with the muscle relaxant? I’m not entirely sure what it is doing for me. It doesn’t stop the progression but it does ease the stiff muscles…
I don’t use it often. It actually works for me like a benzo.
I see. My doctor told me to take it every day but I’m not really seeing the effects.
It makes me less stiff but it doesn’t really do much. I still get stiff…
Does your doctor communicate with you well? My geneticist doesn’t really do much.
I’m lucky. My doc is open and listens to me. My primary. Rheumatologist not so much.
They don’t think they might want to crack down on the people who are prescribing these drugs? Lots of doctors are perfectly okay with writing necessary and excessive prescriptions for these drugs just to appease their patients. Shorter visits equals more visits. ![]()
It’s horrible what doctors did over there to people without much choice. I agree with @Sardonic it’s a terrible thing that doctors and the health system did to consumers.
I’m glad your over most of it but still. Operate within your limits. Pain tolerance shouldn’t be something your should bare because some people got addicted to opiods who didn’t need them…it’s just shocking all around!
A lot of doctors say, “well, she/he asked for it, not my problem”. I just hate it when doctors use patients as a source of money.
Thousands of rare disease/chronic illness/mental illness patients have to pay for a lot of visits. It’s just infuriating when doctors want to use people like us to make profit. Eh.
Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem like it’s just doctors. Educators, law enforcement, lawyers, politicians, religious leaders, businessmen, consumers, activists; people just don’t seem to care about each other anymore. A disturbingly large number of people I’ve met value the lives of lesser animals over the lives of fellow humans. Like, how can anyone justify choosing to save their pet over someone else’s friend, partner, parent, sibling, or child? It makes me sick, honestly.
But it’s easier to blame those with the problem. That’s the way it works, sadly.
