Quote from Eckhart Tolle

"Most people confuse the Now with what happens in the Now, but that’s not what it is. The Now is deeper than what happens in it. It is the space in which it happens.

So do not confuse the content of this moment with the Now. The Now is deeper than any content that arises in it."

“Now” I’m confused.

Every single spiritual teacher is preaching exactly what mentally illness is. Dissociation, depersonalization, delusions of connection as one etc.

They realize the psyche is fragile and people love to feel the special ones. How Manny people are addicted to psychosis? Most of us

I think because of mental illness, the whole topic of spirituality got its shape in earth.

I think that every cell has its dimentionality of its own “now”.

Does Mr Tolle provide any evidence for the contention that “the Now is deeper than what what happens in it”?

The content he refers to is thoughts or ‘story’. Which if you are fearful or sad or anxious, he says it’s almost never the thing outside of yourself that Is the cause of your hardship, but the way in which you think about it and react.
Anyway I love eckhart tolles stuff. Read a couple of his books.
And by now he means that existence isn’t made up of moments or segments of time, but everything is always now, so it’s Better to be here and now rather than distracted by your incessant stream of thinking which places you out of the now.
Anyway I don’t think I conveyed that very well haha. It helps some people.

Oh and the now is deeper than content because you aren’t your thoughts or story or content. You are Consciousness itself. An experiencer.

Thanks. My question was kind of rhetorical because Tolle seems to lack the inclination or curiosity to articulate or respond to even the most obvious objections to his assertions.

@NotSeksoEmpirico haha that’s all g. Yeah he’s an oddball. But still I did enjoy some of his ideas. I don’t swear by them though.

If you feel his books have helped you then all is good. :slightly_smiling_face:

Confusing ‘New Age’ stuff. With mental illness nearly impossible to practice his stuff. I once asked a buddhist teacher, he said to me, that the practice of buddhism with my illness can lead to really negative thoughts. But he encouraged me to observe how I feel and think.

I still listen to Eckhart Tolle and some buddhist teachers. My problem is following or practicing the stuff they teach. I like to listen to this kind of content pretty much from time to time.
