does anyone else suffer from panic attacks for two or more hours after speaking in public??
I think we tend to self analyze our activities and then issue harsh punishment or the threat of it just because in our minds we didn’t do well enough.
This illness has changed me, I do not do any public speaking, if I speak, I speak one-to-one, for example when I ride my bicycle I may meet a person with whom I have a couple of minutes chat.
I read a poll years ago that said most people are more afraid of public speaking then they are afraid of death.
Personally my crowning achievement was giving a 15 minute talk on addiction in a CA meeting in front of 75 people.
I didn’t feel panicked later.
There used to be the time in my life in America when I was a management consultant and went to many corporations to run training classes on many organizational development activities. These classes may have lasted up to one day. Well, this was in the 1990s and then everything changed. And the rest is the history.
It takes me hours to ramp down after doing any sort of public speaking (DJing, podcasting, Internet broadcasting, teaching adult ed courses, running a 4-H project, etc.). The trick is to not let it stop you from getting out there and doing things.
