i suffer from these symptoms:
delusions
tactile hallucinations
cognition impairment
social withdrawal
i dont have auditory or visual hallucinations
so is this schizophrenia or psychosis?
get a pdoc and ask them…best case scenario for you.
Yeah I only ever felt I had delusions only! Seeing a new doc, might check it out with them!!
We cannot tell you, you have to ask your pdoc. People with schizophrenia do experience psychosis but there are other conditions where people experience psychosis.
We aren’t psychiatric doctors. You are asking the wrong ppl.
That’s exactly right. No one here is qualified to diagnose you.
I had this and was diagnosed with psychosis then schizophrenia then psychotic again
Not having Audio or visual hallucination does not necessarily mean you can’t be diagnosed schizoprenic. I have mainly had irrational or paranoid thinking, or losing control of thoughts as main symptom.
Anyway, you need a professional to assess it.
Psychosis refers to a detachment from reality; and loss of insight.
Schizophrenia is the illness with long term symptoms such as voices, delusions, and hallucinations.
Your description fits sz, but you may have had psychosis before.
I think sz is just chronic psychosis… So if it’s less than a month and has an easily remediable source like drugs or something its just psychosis, but if the source is more nuanced and psychological and it last more than a month I think it is, then its sz.
Just my opinion I’m not a doctor
This is my understanding except that schizophrenia is longer than a month. I asked my doctor what the difference between psychosis and schizophrenia and in short schizophrenia is 6 or 9 months of experiencing those symptoms. I say 6 or 9 months because to be honest I don’t remember what I was originally told.
I think we’re both kinda right lol
Google says
Duration: Continuous signs of the disturbance persist for at least 6 months. This 6-month period must include at least 1 month of symptoms (or less if successfully treated) that meet Criterion A (i.e., active-phase symptoms) and may include periods of prodromal or residual symptoms.
A. Characteristic symptoms: Two (or more) of the following, each present for a significant portion of time during a 1-month period (or less if successfully treated): A. Two (or more) of the following, each present for a significant portion of time during a 1-month period (or less if successfully treated). At least one of these must be (1), (2), or (3):
- delusions
- hallucinations
- disorganized speech (e.g., frequent derailment or incoherence) 1–4. SAME
- grossly disorganized or catatonic behavior
- negative symptoms (i.e., affective flattening, alogia, or avolition)
So to be considered sz you need one month of those more serious positive symptoms (hallucinations, delusions etc) and 6 months of the other side effects it seems (social impairment, mood aspect, and other negative symptoms)
Thanks for breaking it down for me haha. But yeah interesting!
Edit:
I actually I was reading from the DSM 4 but the DSM 5 is similar
It says:
Two (or more) of the following, each present for a significant portion of time during a 1-month period (or less if successfully treated). At least one of these must be (1), (2), or (3):
- delusions
- hallucinations
- disorganized speech (e.g., frequent derailment or incoherence) 1–4. SAME
- grossly disorganized or catatonic behavior

that’s the best reply so far. i definitely have schizophrenia not psychosis.
Thanks! Sorry for the mix up by the way
