Dont know due to risk factor …!!!
I love you @far_cry0 you’re a dear friend.
I don’t care about the risks. All these doctors and scientists are sissies. We need everything to go wayyy faster.
Also the fda and the likes as well as big pharma are doing everything to control the market as much as possible. Their intentions being to make more money.
@GentleSoul progress is always facing resistance.
That’s how it always goes.
It happens, but it happens much slower than it potentially can because various forces in society
like conservatives and special interest groups fight it.
This isn’t the stem cell link, but it does offer some progress. One of the potential issues with human stem cell transplants in sz is that the cells that are created from people with sz have defects. Defects in the neurons, defects in the glial cells etc. But, if you transplant cells from someone else, they are likely to be rejected and could also start a serious immune reaction.
But, they’re working on universal donor stem cells. That could potentially solve one of the stem cell problems, as well as making stem cell therapies less expensive (because growing cells for each individual is expensive. )
They’re always gonna need human volunteers when they first test this stuff.
Oh, the universal stem cell people are projecting a 5 year timeline.
I feel that before promoting new therapies, people should also try existing stuff.
For example, there is hope, albeit faint, that sarcosine and sodium benzoate may somewhat improve the situation
as adjunctive treatments.
Some people aren’t even on therapeutic doses of antipsychotics.
Of course I would eagerly welcome a cure and better treatments,
just saying that meanwhile there is a duty to try the existing things.
5 years, thats short. Let’s hope it all goes smoothly. No bumps and hiccups.
Yes good point, @Chess24. You might also want to check out acyclovir, I posted the study in another thread. It improved cognition in people with sz who also had HSV1 (the virus that causes cold sores)
@GentleSoul your lips to God’s ears. Maybe by the time the universal cells are proven, they’ll be ready to consider clinical trials of stem cells in sz.
So they are saying stem cells are like an organ transplant in which the recipient must take immunosuppressants for life???
or are they saying recieving a stem cell transplant is more like a blood transfusion? but not exactly???In blood transfusions, even those getting the O Neg may still get a mild reaction right? It is just that type of blood is least reactive to most people, isnt it?
The thing is, blood cells from a transfusion that are not a perfect match may cause a reaction, but the reaction is controled by a imunosupressive. But then again, blood cells are not perminate. They are quickly filtered out by the liver and then replaced by marrow. This can happen in as little as 7 days.
Is this stem cell research going to grow new and perfect cells that will in time become compatible with our immune systems?
nevermind . i see what you are saying. They are culturing stem cells for the purpose of eliminating the need of immunosuppresants.
This would work for any transplant patient not just brain tissue. Growing tissue cells is one thing. Growing tissue cells that will not be rejected by the recipient is another thing.
The slowness is due to science’s caution with the truth, not to brakes put there by societal forces.
Yeah I not big on injecting murdered baby into my body. I’ll just stay crazy
Thanks for the help! I couldn’t figure out how to make the forum software work???
They figured out how to grow stem cells in rhe lab in 2006. Most stem cell research does not involve fetal tissue.
