You know doctors have the highest suicide rate? Interesting to think that the people supposed to be giving us sound advice on how to be healthy are the mostly likely to end their own.
They also don’t die like regular people in that they don’t go for every life sustaining treatment to prolong the inevitable.
I heard an emergency medicine doctor got do not resuscitate tattooed on his chest.
Most waive the code blue.
Psychiatrists have the highest suicide rate of doctors. Apparently, psychoanalysis can be very punishing to both parties. A psychiatrist has to do psychoanalysis with dozens of patients. I had a psychology professor at school who once told us that once you’ve done psychoanalysis for six months the whole world starts to look like a cess pool.
I can imagine, I think you’d have to be a sociopath to hold up to hearing a half dozen or more people every day telling you about their darkest problems, child abuse, rape, the loss of a child, a parent, a spouse, the darkest fears and aspects of being human. And then you’d always lose a few clients to suicide despite your best efforts. It’s a hell of a job, I wouldn’t want it.
Being a regular doctor sounds pretty stressful too, maybe not quite as much. But like ER doctor or pediatric cancer doctor also has to be pretty traumatic.
