Thought disorder in schizophrenia is worsened by stress exposure, and is associated with profound dysfunction of the prefrontal cortex, a newly evolved brain region that subserves higher cognition. Prefrontal gray matter is lost as patients descend into illness, and neurons lose vital connections. Research shows that these newly evolved prefrontal circuits are uniquely regulated at the molecular level, and are particularly sensitive to stress exposure. These findings help to explain how a variety of genetic insults can weaken prefrontal cortical function in schizophrenia, and has begun to provide strategies for novel therapeutics to protect neuronal connections.

they should answer what does negative symptoms causes and fix the brain problem…!!!
I think I lost a lot of prefrontal gray matter. My psychiatrist said that AP’s help to protect the brain. I have also noticed on several occasions how stress brings forth psychosis in my brain. Lets hope for better meds in near future.

Does anyone have trouble watching television? I’m really worried about not being able to process information. I watch and hear the words but I can’t grasp their meaning in a strange way. They feel unfamiliar even though I know them. I’m going to be taking a cognitive assessment but I’m not sure if my problem will show up.
Is it just me or does it seem like every day we read at least one new article the claims to be a new avenue for treatment for schizophrenia but we are still stuck with the same old thing. Excuse my negativity Firemonkey and this is certainly not directed at your post. But I am really sick and tired of watching my life slip away before my eyes and there isn’t a god damned thing I can do about it. We are all slaves to bad brain chemistry on this site. When will they actually stop talking about doing something and actually do it?
