Sorry to say but chances of coming off aps altogether after a course of treatment is rare. In my case I’m drastically worse off meds than I was before.

I was wondering about this. Thinking back I was better off meds before I started them . Then when I tried to come off for the first time I was much worse…

I think you have to come off extremely slow ?

Some people the meds really mess up when they go off, others the meds actually kinda cure them. That is very rare though.

Im sorry man I haven’t been keeping up.

Why should you quit olanzapine?

I saw my doctor today and she told me she eventually wants me to stop taking Olanzapine.

Everything has risks. Im sure your doc has alternative suggestions.

My pdoc wants me on lithium, valproate or lurasidone.

My doc wants me on abilify and an ssri.

Docs all have different opinions

Swap meds is the best option by far. I learned over my 8 years of schizophrenia it’s better to talk with your doc and swap then to stop abruptly. There’s so many meds out there which you could potentially like with minimal side effects.

Yeah I agree with @everhopeful
Listen to your doctor

I’d go with what the doctor says. Usually that’s the best route

Before I vote, I wanted to ask if you’ve had the most success on Olanzapine or have you not tried enough to know?

@HollyHobbie - I’ve only tried 2 AP’s. Abilify and Olanzapine. Abilify didnt do much for me sadly. Olanzapine helps my paranoia and delusions but makes me a food monster.

OK, I voted to stop taking Olanzapine and switch to a different AP. Can your doctor give you something to help with appetite while taking olanzapine if that ends up being the one that works the best for you? I think I’ve read here that some people have done that with success.

My Caplyta makes me a food monster and so did Abilify. I’m focused on waiting for my docs opinion on Cobenfy. Last time we met, he said he wants to wait for more data to come through. Cobenfy doesn’t have the appetite effect. I recommend talking to your doc about it if you live in US.

I’m also working on getting prescribed a GLP1 med. My doc prescribed one, but insurance denied it along with the appeal. I’m fighting it, as you have to with insurance. Also, Biden is trying to get GLP1s covered by Medicare for weight loss but Trump’s cabinet will have to approve it.

Sorry, bit of a tangent there.

All in all, go with your docs recommendation, but also advocate for yourself.

I cant afford it. Also if I remember correctly, Cobenfy raises blood pressure. I dont want that.

She told me all AP’s are bad for your heart. Quite depressing.

My doctor told me she has lots of experience working with psychiatric medicines before ahe moved here to Canada. She told me Olanzapine is generally bad for heart health and cholesterol.

I see her again in a month.
