Poll: (fixed) Did you ever have a life threatening experience with a medication

  • Yes, nearly killed me
  • No

I answered yes, but the fact is that the life threatening situation occurred because I stupidly ignored directions that came with the medication. Developed agranulocytosis while on Clozaril. Almost no white cells left. Developed very severe pneumonia that nearly took me out. My lungs have never completely come back from that. Would never have gotten that ill if I hadn’t been skipping the mandated blood tests.

That’s on me.

Edit: I should add that agranulocytosis is a very VERY rare side-effect of Clozaril - I guess I’m just one of the ‘blessed’ who encountered it. The more common side-effects are increased appetite, increased weight, and lethargy.

legal medication? No.

I’ve had some that gave me some huge side effects… and knock me on my butt, but never nearly kill me.

Haldol was too much for me.

I ended up in ER after mixing two anti depressants and later once again when I was on Zyprexa.

I had a bad reaction to geodon, my parents couldn’t get me to wake up fully. That was scary.

I said yes but only just because I took 600 risperdal one time. Got my psychiatrist in a lot of trouble and he was giving me a stockpile just in case I needed them. Obviously I called 911 and went to the hospital and survived.

I had a terrible reaction to respiradone one time. When stiff as a board for three months straight. The worst akathisia which lead to me trying to get out of a car moving at 70 along the motorway

Yes- trazondone ■■■■■■ my heart rhythm up real good at 150mg. I thought I was gonna die that night.

I also got in a car wreck after taking my nighttime Geodon which was serious and totaled the other car and ■■■■.

I also nearly died out of drunkeness while on Prozac. I was taken care of and told to make myself vomit which I did. I had drank and smoked way too much of too many different liquors and smokable plants.

When my mind was tapped and i ended up in the bin they injected me forcibly and it was such a heavy dose i almost lost consciousness.

Could have been life threatening.

I once was thrown in a padded cell and given an injection. I passed out, and awakened many hours later in a normal ward. I had problems wih my body for some hours afterwards.

I’ve had medication make me suicidal, but I’ve never had a life threatening experience from the medication alone.

Long story short, I voted yes because of seroquel.

I voted yes because as i was taking fanapt, i developed painful stomach cramps and was throwing up going to the bathroom 6 to 8 times a day for a month. I went to the hospital they admitted me right away for dehydration and had to put me on tons of fluids for four days. For that four days i wasn’t taking my fanapt because the hospital didn’t stock it and i stopped throwing up, no more going to the bathroom and most of all no more stomach cramps.
