Poll: Do you suffer from black and white thinking?

This is something I struggle with big time. For example someone is either good or bad / friend or foe with me. I struggle with thinking in terms of shades of grey.

You only need to understand and look from many different perspectives. I try it but i dont like it.

Black and white thinking is beautiful

That’s funny. It’s certainly easier though.

It is one of my worst symptoms. As i grow older i learn more to compromise and be humble and try to understand things better :upside_down_face: Said no one ever

Yes and people will be all good one day and all bad the following day.
It switches quickly.

Yes, but nowhere near as bad as it used to be. I had a really great therapist help me see the greys.

Do they ever switch back, though? I’m really bad about the people are good/bad thing and once they switch to bad they’re dead to me. I have a really hard time letting them back in after that.

I’m a skeptic. I doubt everything. I’m very much the fence sitter. I am militantly middle of the road about most issues.

They switch back for me.
But sometimes I’ll just hate someone and it’s for life.

I answered no. I work in worker’s comp and there’s a lot of grey area with illness and injury so I can’t really have black and white thinking. However, I work with legislation so I need some degree of black and white thinking. But our legislation is pretty flimsy, so I have creative license with it.

I answered yes because although I fight it and try not to be thinking in terms of black and white, I find myself doing so. This is a pit fall of many programmers. X is always a good design when it is not - it is a sometimes good design.

The more I think about it, the more I feel my black and white thinking is paralyzing me.

I’m sorry. Can you get with a therapist and work on it?
