Pink Floyd...how it's affected schizophrenics I've been around

when I was in the mental ward…patients would quote sayings from the Wall a lot…amused me to no end…

When I was in the hospital some of the guys started taking towels and would wrap them around their heads to look like French Foreign Legion hats and walk around all day like that. It was actually quite funny.

There was this potentially dangerous guy in my ward, who would mess with the men in the ward…he came up and stared at me one time and because I was ill I believed he couldn’t hurt me and he never bothered me. he pissed off this cowboy in the ward…and the cowboy punched him and when he was on the groung the cowboy kicked the guy in the nose and broke it. never forget it…

I used to watch it a lot before I cleaned up and I thought it was the Most Profound Thing Ever. First time I watched it when I was clean I was like…

“EerrrhrhrrrhhhHrrhrhH???”

Haven’t even listed to any Pink Floyd in over two decades to be honest.

My first real band crush was Pink Floyd. Really related as a white, lower class male in a society which blows. Roger Waters really wrote some cool stuff but I eventually found out about punk and moved on. My first breakdown was largely depression with paranoia not quite as prevalent back then so I’d already moved past Floyd at the time.

I haven’t listened to the entire The Wall for over two decades at least now…Ahh the memories! If I can pick it up cheap one day I might just put it on my playlist. It would be cool to revisit as I walk around the block!

I don’t know that much about Pink Floyd, but I always liked that line - “And if the band you’re in starts playing out of tune / I’ll see you on the dark side of the moon.” I think that’s how it goes. It so accurately describes my mental state in high school.

The most direct reference to schizophrenia by Pink Floyd had to be the last 2 songs of “Dark Side of the Moon”. My schizophrenia began with voices in the distance that ended up in my head (or appeared to) just like “Brain Damage”, and the subject matter was about everything in my life which is explained by “Eclipse”.
