Hi, Its been a year since i had manic episodes and go withouth seroquel as it was needed i was very sick because of drug induced psychosis of lamictal 25 mg. (by my stand of point a very dangerous anti convulsant that has potential to cause psychosis as disruption of glutamate levels or something someone told me years ago)
I followed Sarcosine “Brainvitaminz” therapy for 2 months and i ditched the seroquel with approval of my best psychiatrist, i do had to abort sarcosine after those 2 months due to vibration or spasms every damn 15 minutes in my p enis. i had it tested for infections but nothing was found. These lasted for months after quiting sarcosine.
I upped my dose to 1 mg sarcosine to twice daily and after few days i got this side effect. after 2 months following the procedure.
I do live with 1 depot anti psychotic Abilify 400 mg once a month, beta blocker and klonopin 1 mg twice daily, if i add seroquel its a disaster like heart attack if i eat too much, high colesterol, sugar and other evil things and it doesnt even work for negative symptoms for me.
im still severely depressed im having an appointment with my best psychiatrist to add Saphris (Asenapine low dose at night)
CONCLUSION: Sarcosine stopped those manic attacks even on 2 anti psychotics that i had for 5 years, like the Polish university study said on schizophrenia.com they are correct, MAY REVERSE DAMAGE TO BRAIN!!!
I do not recommend Sarcosine with any form of seroquel if youre sensitive to sinus tachardya side effect also Glycine.
Without you guys i would never had a girlfriend for a year, but now shes gone… because of the negative symptoms and i dont like going outside atm because of depression and remaining negative symptoms but ill discuss it with my cool psychiatrist to try Saphris soon I hope.
Please contact me if you had psychosis after taking lamictal 25 or whatever dose you were on and it never went away and your diagnosis is already schizophrenia/psychosis the psychiatrist said i already had a psychosis a natural stress induced one and now a lamictal induced one. a persistant one.
I would believe it, I have been on sarcosine for over a year now and I am still seeing improvements every day, I get the sense that some of the improvements are permanent!
I’m very glad Sarcosine has helped you. That is great!
I do want to point out, however, that we can’t conclude that it can reverse brain damage based on personal experiences. Also, I don’t think sarcosine actually has an effect on positive symptoms of psychosis. It does improve negative symptoms, though.
It can also affect positive symptoms: In '09/'10 I was in a really bad shape, most of my days I was only dealing with intrusive thoughts. Once on Sarcosine it got rid of my intrusive thoughts for 90% and a symptoms I do not know the name of and can only explain, it felt like I did not have control over a part of my body, it got rid of that completely. After I a year I forgot to take Sarcosine for a month, I almost admitted myself to the hospital because all my symptoms came back. After that incident I never forgot to take my Sarcosine. In 2015 I stopped Sarcosine and now it’s 2017 and non of my disabling positive symptoms returned. Once in a while I have intrusive thoughts, I take Sarcosine on those days and immediately go into remission.
It may well be able to reverse brain damage, but one study isn’t enough to prove that. Also, the article you linked says “may reverse brain damage”. I would just remind people not to jump to conclusions here and not to equate personal experiences with real evidence. Also, if you know of any other studies that show sarcosine can reverse brain damage or has an effect on positive symptoms, I would very much like to see them. I don’t know a whole lot about sarcosine and would like to learn more.
Everyone is different, in some (like me) it did/does affect positive, negative and cognitive symptoms. In other it does nothing. In other it makes to hyped-up. In others it only affects negatives.
Since some of my symptoms never returned due to my long lasting Sarcosine use, I can conclude it did reverse brain damage in me.
And if you’re waiting for more study’s with Sarcosine instead of studying what effects it has on you with and without Sarcosine and share your experience then we are studying it as well. If you’re going to wait for scientific study’s I guess you’ll be waiting a very long time since there are not much study’s conducted anymore with Sarcosine. Scientists already know how Sarcosine affects the brain and they’re already out there trying to make improved and more effective versions of “Sarcosine”.
I’m sorry, but this isn’t good evidence at all. Your conclusion is not warranted. You’re not taking into consideration the placebo effect or the possibility of spontaneous remission of symptoms. I’m glad you got better, but please stop equating your own experiences with real evidence. It just isn’t.
Sarcosine ads are the only ads allowed on this site because there are good scientific studies on it showing that it works. That’s what separates sarcosine from a long list of mostly useless (and sometimes dangerous) supplements.
After one year I forgot to take Sarcosine for a month and almost admitted myself to the hospital until I remembered Sarcosine was my cure. The fact that now I’m able to go without Sarcosine (for 2 years) makes me believe that using Sarcosine for so long could have cured something in my brain. And I’m guessing it could have made some of my hypo-active NMDA receptors functional again. And as you might know, there are no antipsychotics (except for Clozapine), antidepressants and supplement or whatnot that affect the same NMDA receptors like Sarcosine does.
I’ve tried loads of drugs/herbs/supplements/nootropics (the list would be to long to mention them all) and Sarcosine was the only one that really helped.
And I guess my experience will help more people to give Sarcosine a shot (for the record: I started Sarcosine in 09/10 when there was only a FEW studies done with it). Anecdotal/user experiences are just as important so people know how Sarcosine effects different people.
In fact there is a saying in science - a “sample size of 1” (i.e. one person trying something - such as yourself) doesn’t mean much at all.
I think it might be more accurate to say something like this, given your experience:
"I took sarcosine for a long time. After stopping sarcosine, some of my symptoms have not returned. I suspect that the two may be related, and there is research that suggests that this could be true
(as seen here: http://schizophrenia.com/?p=740
I’m wary of supplements. I think sarcosine helped me but I think it could have caused stimulation, possible depression, etc. I still want to take it. Next week, I will ask my doctor!
