People’s behavior

Working at the health clinic is kind of a drag.

You catch all the attitude at the front desk. And people are confrontational I guess because they know you’re not going to react in kind. You have to be professional.

Being cussed out because someone mixed up their appointment dates, or because someone is late and can no longer be seen, is getting exhausting. My fight or flight is activated several times a day and my body is exhausted by the end of it.

And they pay peanuts. So not even fairly compensated for the experience. It feels exploitative.

Anyway, I’m just griping. Customer service is a tough gig.

I had a couple of fast food jobs where I was getting paid peanuts and the customers were nasty as hell. In fact my first psychosis happened while I was at work with one of these jobs. So not worth it.

Did you say you had a chance of working somewhere better?

I was a janitor for a while and it was definitely the worst. So many nightmares there. For such little pay  They re-hired me 3x despite how many times I messed up because I was one of the only honest, reliable…and they were used to hiring really horrible employees.

They told me my job is always available but im not going back.

All the “customers” who would disrespect janitors at that job really pissed me off. One time i snapped. So i feel you gamera

I had to develop a quick wit to survive in my retail job else I would have really thought low of myself due to the rudeness of general public.

It helps me to have a “work hat” that I take on while working, and I take it off when I leave the workplace, and making it clear in my mind that these people don’t have a problem with me.

No matter who was working the front desk they would do the same thing. They have a problem with the system is all.

I worked on produce and during covid this foriegn woman called me over and ask me something in a rude tone. Then she starts shouting at me "two metres!!! TWO METRES!!! Her accent was funny so I replied…
"Toomaytaz? They are on the end next to spinach’’ haha she went mad and I saw her complaining to my store manager but I knew he wasnt going to say nothing to me.

I have an interview on Tuesday for a job working in the communications dept. at a local university on Tuesday. I’m hoping that might be a better fit.

I was there nearly 15 since I was 18. First few years were rough figuring out why people are practically evil in that kind of power dynamic. I was a bit chavvy and walked with a bop, its amazing how many strangers I felt wanted to put a random dude like me in his place and had the power to initiate trouble without consequence, after all the customer is always right and in comparison I am replacable.
I feel for you that you are behind a desk, atleast I could bop away.
