Pdoc put me on Haldol have you taken it? What should I expect?

after being without a AP for over a month he decided to put me on 1mg Haldol at night. Curious to see if anyone has taken this drug? Success and failures please.

orange,i am on 1,5 mg in the morning. quite small dose we have both… i take it since 5 days but its not as zombifying as was clozapine…clozapine was death for me… i have energy on haldol and one guy that i know is energetic also on it

Low dose 5mg I can tolerate as it makes my weirdness go away. High dose however is zombiefying with lots of drooling. 1mg you should be fine.

mmasters, 1,5 mg can help also?

Haldol is a very potent antipsychotic so maybe 1.5mg can be effective. Haven’t taken it in years so not sure about dosages.

how was you on it jimbo? could it help me to find my emotions back?

Sadly it was terrible for me. Awful akathisia and pretty much knocked me for six.

Saying that I have seen it doing great things for some people. Everyone’s different - I hope it works for you.

ok,i see. yeah i know i risk akathisia on it. take care

1 mg is a pretty small dose, so it shouldn’t be bad. I’ve been on 40 mg of Haldol a day, and believe me, that is a living hell. I spent a lot of time on the Haldol shot, and that was tolerable though it wasn’t good. Some people are very sensitive to Haldol and some tolerate it well.

1 mg of Haldol really isn’t much of a dose at all. He’s probably testing the water to see what kind of side effects it will elicit. I take 30 mg of the stuff, but have been on as much as 80 mg. I love it. I do swear by it. It was the first antipsychotic had ever taken (this was in the pre-Risperdal era), and it packs a punch. I think it’s great, but a lot of people find it intolerable, it seems. Hope you get some use out of it.

It makes me tired. So tired. It’s also the drug of choice for flying tackles in the psych ward, which is my other reason for disliking it. I’ve gotten an ass full of it on occasion after going full-on delusional and doing something to upset the nurses.

Pixel.

is it good for paranoia? i dont feel confortable with others still…

i take 20 mgs of haldol, my hands started to shake so the doctor prescribed me with congentin.

i took Haldol for about 2 or 3 months. it was the perfect cure for my paranoia, but the side effects were absolutely horrid. i was completely unable to complete a sentence. i would start w/ and idea in my head but as soon as i opened my mouth, i would forget what i was going to say, and the only things that came out of my mouth were the words , “ummm” or “i’m so sorry, i can’t remember what i wanted to say.”

i am diabetic and i have to give myself insulin throughout the day. i couldn’t even do this very simple task (which i have been doing for over 30 years) and i was not able to refill my med tray each week. if i didn’t have my husband to help me through this, i would have had to go back to being in-patient at the hospital. finally, i stopped the Haldol and everything returned to “normal.”

i do know of a few more people who have had a similar experience, but i also know some people who love the stuff. good luck. and just as a P.S.: i take Clozapine (clozerile) and it works very well.

I take 50 mg of haldol with no side effects works for me
