Parenting Question

My daughter is 25 and works on her feet all day. Should I let her work in her uncomfortable tennis shoes to build her character (I’ve gone to work hungry. It didn’t kill me)? Or should I buy her comfy shoes that she can’t afford for herself?

I’d do that, if you can afford it.

Maybe loan her the money to buy the comfy shoes

Does she not already know the value of money working on her feet all day?

I think comfortable shoes are very important in a job where you are required to be on your feet most of the day. It’s a investment in health for the future. Wearing bad shoes can potentially give backproblems.

Maybe she could pay a little and you could pay the rest. I would probably give it though unless it put a strain on my own economy.

She’s working hard…not out partying and stealing cars. Treat her to a new pair of sneakers.

This is true but sometimes hardship in life builds character. I’m leaning toward buying them. She has a great work ethic.

Buy her some comfy shoes; she’s working hard.

Do the shoes have to be formal, or can she wear sneakers? Reebok do great running shoes; super comfy.

I used to work as a waiter and I wore formal shoes. Sneakers are way more comfortable.

Understandable.

But also receiving a gift shows her love.

Yeah. She’s wearing tennis shoes now. She cleans medical equipment I guess 8 hours a day. I’m looking at Skechers. I just don’t know how I’m going to get them to her. I don’t have a car.

Skechers are good. Maybe you could give her a voucher, or order them online? Delivery fees are usually free over a threshold.

Risk/benefit analysis:

the risks of buying her shoes are that she might not learn how to save up for important things. The benefits are that she will have healthier joints and be less tired at the end of the day, and she will feel loved and cared for.

The risks of not buying her shoes are that she could develop early onset arthritis in her knees and back, and might wind up with chronic pain. She might become permanently disabled. The benefits are that she will understand fully how hard it is to earn money for good shoes.

In my mind, the answer is clear. If you can afford good shoes, that is a hood investment. If you can’t afford the good shoes, then Dr. Scholl’s working women foot inserts are the next best thing.

Oofoos are a really good comfy shoe for long hours. Theyre usually expensive, but you can find discontinued styles on clearance for $50 instead of $150.

If you can afford it then buy her comfortable shoes.
It’s the human thing to do.
After all she’s your daughter
