Paranoid schizophrenia with depression, and schizoaffective, depressive type

What’s the difference?
No difference at all, right?

Paranoid means excessive anxiety that others might harm you, follow you, track you, make plot to attack you etc. Basically its excessive anxiety linked with people.

Depression is basically inability to feel pleasure in almost anything. Its almost opposite of anxiety. In depression its not like the individual cant feel pleasure, motivation etc instead it require much more effort to feel them just like old vehicle engine. It require much more fuel to drive the same distance when compared with new vehicle.

Schizophrenia is when there is any positive symptom like paranoia, delusion, hallucination, mania etc. If there is no positive symptom then its not schizo instead depression, bipolar depression or other.

I’m not sure you understand the question

Paranoid schizophrenia is a subtype, no longer in use by DSM, and it doesn’t mean only anxiety but presence of positive symptoms and intact personality

Yes paranoia itself is a positive symptom and thus fall under schizophrenia spectrum. Its called paranoid schizophrenia. John Nash one who got nobel prize and died recently due to car accident had this kind of schizophrenia.

I think the difference is intensity of the depression and how it plays with your psychosis. I have sza depressive type and I get psychotic symptoms while depressed and while not depressed, and depression is probably my biggest symptom. I’m depressed most of the time. With sz with depression the depression is more secondary

Schizoaffective, depressive type would include mania but be predominantly depression?

No mania at all

hmmmm well schizoaffective is supposed to be the combo of mania/depression with psychosis (but the psychosis is not due to/does not only occur during the mood highs/lows)

Paranoid sz depression is shorter
Sza with depression the depression lasts longer and meets criteria for major depression episode whereas sz depression doesn’t

Your right if there’s any different at all it’s small. I suppose the depression could be to small compared to the psychosis for sza if sz with depression is used or maybe it could mean the sz and depression occur in separate episodes.

paranoid sz is when delusions and hallucinations are prominent and other symptoms aren’t a main component of the presentation.

sza depressive type means there hasn’t been a manic episode, just sz and depression.

Schizoaffective disorder is when you don’t have full SZ symptoms.

Its important to diffrentiate negative symptoms from depression. They look the same but are not.
I have negative symptoms, psy prescribed antidepressant but it was useless, only more sleep.
