Paranoia/Schizophrenia and Politics

I don’t know how others diagnosed with schizophrenia or paranoia are dealing with the politics of today, but I am having a pretty tough time with being hopeful in such a seemingly hopeless society. Having served previously in the military, I based my life around doing something good for society and trying to be a contributor to our country. Now it feels almost like all of it was a waste of time. Right now I am trying to find a purpose in my life, but I am so paranoid that my symptoms are just getting worse and digging me into a deeper hole. It’s hard to concentrate on tasks at hand when I hear a voice in my ear interrupting my thoughts. Now with the feeling of impending doom from this government, I can’t help but to feel trapped in a hole that I cannot seem to escape from. It just seems like all hope is lost really. I honestly feel like people could be out to get me; to get all of us. To get any of us who aren’t within their realm of “normal.” Just late night thoughts that I’m having. I’m hoping for some good rest tonight and a better tomorrow.

Yeah politics were depressing even before sz. Add paranoia and you’ve got a cocktail for depression and anxiety. I tend to focus on positive people who are changing the world like Bill Nye, Neil Degrasse Tyson, Oprah, Ellen and other such public figures who are awesome.

Paranoia’s a bitch though. Hard to be positive when you feel like people are surveying you. Meds and spirituality helped me move past it.

My pdoc advised me to ignore politics/current events. I took his advice and it’s really working for me. I hope you find some peace @joshm.

Yeah I have a tendency toward anxiety and paranoia and politics really got to me so on the advice of my therapist I finally limited reading about it and watching news. I can handle a scary movie better than the news. lol

I have a tendency to rapidly change my position based on an argument. I’m basically very gullible and easy to convince. I’m a follower by nature. So listening to these opinion pieces and stuff tends to sway me to rapidly toward one end or another, when I think I’m a little left of center to be honest. But I’m still a news junky.
