Paracetamol for emotional distress?

Today I was very upset at fate and my life in general and got the idea of taking a couple of paracetamol to numb the emotional pain. Seemed to work, 15 minutes after taking it a happy feeling came over me that lasted for a few hours.

Did this stuff you took contain codeine ?

At rare occasions I take paracetamol with codeine if I can’t sleep. I have no idea why or if it works.

Guys, The last thing you need is to get addicted to painkillers/codeine.

Stop using them to feel better (while you still can)

Same thing as Tylenol. I can’t spell the generic for US lol. I have never heard of it doing anything for emotions. Probably placebo effect which can be pretty strong.

Unless it has codeine or hydrocodone.

No. It was pure paracetamol. I think it could be taken occasionally when the distress gets too much, maybe once or twice a week.

It’s easy to fatally overdose on paracetamol so make sure you follow the guidelines on the box.

Ok. Thanks.

My father was a police officer so I had it drummed into me from an early age about the dangers of addiction. I’m very wary of getting hooked on anything so have never touched any illicit substance and I don’t even drink alcohol.

A few years ago I used to drink lemsips at night. Those contain paracetamol and it helped me relax before bed. I told the doctor what I had been doing and she told me to drink hot lemon instead. It worked.

It’s possible.

Tylenol and paracetamol are the same medicine.

Taking these meds long term can be harmful though, so just take as needed and don’t drink alcohol with it.
