We only can afford diet cokes for me and cokes for my wife until about the middle of the month…we are drinking kool-aid and I drink an extra pot of coffee during the day to help my caffeine addiction. we get by…dang, it’s hard though…do you have to go without anything each month?
Soda is out of budget for us too.
We drink off brand diet soda for $1 at our grocery store. Actually going today to pick up 10 2liters for $10
Also stopped Amazon grocery and going to 3 local store for deals cause 1 store might be cheap for soda and another store has deals for cauliflower.
well I am ok, recently the food benefits didnt come in at regular times, so it was hard to plan when they came in later than usual. Usually they come in on the 12th but sometimes five or more days later. When I get my income its deposited to my Payee and then I have to line up for $10 a day, thats how they budge it out. If I miss the money and meds, I cant afford a pack of cigarettes which is all I can afford if i get the cheapests ones $12. I cant go shopping, I cant afford clothes, and all my money is made out to a check so I cant order things online. so really, idk…Im working my way out of this depression, I signed up for a rehab program, but im not really an addict. they just seem to help addict more in NYC than in WV, where they just let people live on nothing and run the streets.
If my dad would help me I wouldnt have to be on SSI, but he is evil with his money and if I ever ask for help I get yelled at and punished. I hate money, to me its a force of mind control and how to overpower others, turn the citizens masochistic about life. the SRO i Live in was the entire GOAL of moving from WV when I had an apartment for literally free. But I chose to leave, and do the work of healing, even though I dont like living in city i know its me and my situation but moreso the situation isnt allowing any forward growth or momentum, because Im on SSI and Im 34 and i dont like my life feeling at a dead end.
Honestly I have never felt more alive and happy then when I left NYC. I absolutely love the idea of money and independence. So I will try really hard to bring the good vibes with me. But its like I am at odds with all the energy around me,
Every once in a while I get a pack of rootbeer. Usually for beverages I get water. Mostly spring water, but some bubly water. There are times when I can’t afford the bubly water.
If you drink a lot of soda, you could ask your mom to buy you a soda maker. They are ultimately cheaper.
I can’t afford to eat enough calories every day unless I eat Ramen or rice or bread and I don’t want to eat those things especially not every day.
I am lucky I can afford food, but I don’t drink sodas.I do try to cook at home and buy food that is discounted.
I wonder what kind of monetary set up that would take? @anon55031185
The machine costs about $200 initially. The soda itself is cheaper if bought in bulk. I think @anon82948922 buys his soda in bulk. You can make your own carbonation, too.
my wife is worried about having to clean the machine when it gets stopped up…I’m intimidated by the thought of having a machine like that. I am very stubborn to change really…I d k.
Haven’t had one get stopped up yet in over a year. There is a deep cleaning routine you can do that is pretty simple. You occasionally have to run a bit of water through the front of the unit where syrup builds up. I will have to post videos later.
it’s ok man…I don’t want to get one…it scares me.
I don’t know why? The one I use doesn’t have a CO2 tank. The carbonation reaction is powered by baking soda and citric acid being mixed into an internal water tank. A small pump pushes the resulting carbon dioxide into the drink. There’s no danger of it blowing up.
My wife and I enjoy having one or two root beers per evening. The good brand that we like costs $3/bottle. The root beer we make with the Sodastream syrup is almost identical and costs us about $0.40 per large glass. We’re saving at least $5/day, usually more.
I started using a Soda Stream carbonator and making my own seltzer. I still have 3 Diet Pepsis a day but have given up the Diet Mountain Dew and cigarettes… it’s been 2 weeks since I had either, but it’s kind of cheating since 1.5 weeks was when I was in the hospital. Hoping to save some money.
The loss of money spent on drinks that could go to food is scarier.
@anon4362788 we buy a case each of the cokes and diet cokes at the beginning of the month…it’s all we can buy. we only have one a day. it’s worth it to us…we get help from mom next month but I told her she doesn’t have to help us anymore after next month…
Well, considering we have quite a few food insecure folks here, complaining about going 2 weeks without soda is a little dismissive of those people. I mean, we have 2 threads on food emergency etc.
It is weird what some people consider necessities in life, aren’t actually when it boils down to it. I thought @jukebox said they had extra money now not paying for dog meds. Maybe I misheard.
soda is really expensive now I noticed. I don’t buy anymore but I noticed the price the other day.
